For most of the web’s history, websites have been designed primarily for people.
A visitor arrives, reads the content, navigates through menus, completes a form, searches for a product or works through a checkout process. Search engines may index the information, but the important actions are still designed around a person clicking, typing and making decisions on the page.
AI agents are beginning to change that relationship.
Instead of only helping someone find a website, an AI agent may increasingly help them use it. It could search a product catalogue, compare suitable options, complete parts of an enquiry, find an available appointment or prepare a purchase for the customer to review.
That raises a practical question for businesses:

The four practical layers of an agent-ready website
